The men in sheds

Today I met the ‘men in sheds’ group from Exeter and what a privilege it was.

These chaps give their time to renovate old tools, kindly donated by members of the public and send them out to people in Africa. It’s such a great enterprise and works on so many different levels. Retired men, with valuable skills, come along to the workshop, just off Cowick Street and renovate tools which are then sent out in boxes to people who need them in Africa.

For the blokes who sort and restore these old tools, it’s an opportunity for them to use their valuable skills and in doing so a chance to socialise and find fellowship with like minds. Then the end products, shipped out in useful packs, is a means to earn a living for people who would not normally be able to afford expensive tools.

They get shipped out in packs, bespoke for the trade; carpenters’ pack, bike mechanic or plumbing tools to name just a few. It’s a fantastic enterprise which should be applauded and they made me a lovely cuppa with chocolates!!
